Core Lab: Preclinical Research

What is the Preclinical Research Core Lab?

It is a space designed to support research, education, and development activities.

Our goal is to support researchers in the development of experimental models for safety and efficacy testing of drugs, food, medical devices, among many others, as well as the generation of knowledge.

The unit assists researchers and offers external services in developing Experimental Models for safety and effectiveness tests.

Preclinical Research CoreLab has a Type C Animal Facility located at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monterrey Campus.

CICUAL

The Institutional Committee for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (CICUAL) has the objectives of overseeing the Institutional Plan for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, as well as reviewing the facilities, validating operating procedures, and evaluating research protocols and other proposals involving the use of animals; following the specifications of NOM-062-200-1999.

CICUAL will ensure that all the rules stipulated in the Internal Regulations of the Tecnológico de Monterrey Biotherium are complied with.

¿Qué es el Core Lab Investigación Preclínica?

Es un espacio diseñado para apoyar actividades de investigación, educación y desarrollo.

Nuestro objetivo es apoyar a investigadores e investigadoras en el desarrollo de modelos experimientales para pruebas de seguridad y eficacia de fármacos, alimentos, dispositivos médicos, entre muchos otros; así como la generación conocimiento.

Unidad que se crea para auxiliar a los investigadores y ofrecer servicio hacia el exterior en el desarrollo de Modelos Experimentales para pruebas de seguridad y eficacia.

El CoreLab de Investigación Preclínica cuenta con un Bioterio tipo C con sede en la Escuela de Medicina y Ciencias de la Salud, campus Monterrey.

El Comité Institucional para el Cuidado y Uso de Animales de Laboratorio (CICUAL) tiene como objetivos vigilar el Plan Institucional para el Cuidado y Uso de los Animales de Laboratorio, así como revisar las instalaciones, validar los procedimientos de operación y evaluar los protocolos de investigación y otras propuestas que involucre el uso de animales; siguiendo las especificaciones de la NOM-062-200-1999.

Mapping of Human Flourishing in Latin America

"Recognizing the research landscape and leadership capabilities in the study of Human Flourishing in Mexico, Colombia, Chile, and Brazil" is a research project led by Tecnológico de Monterrey, with the participation of researchers from the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, University of the Andes (TRIADA), as well as Nossa Terra Firme. Additionally, professors from prestigious institutions such as Harvard University, New York University, and Baylor University are involved.

The main purpose of this project is to map academic research on human flourishing in Latin America; for which our institution won a research grant from the Templeton World Charity Foundation (TWCF).

En el inicio del proyecto...

Se llevó a cabo una exploración bibliométrica usando bases de datos bibliográficas de prestigio con la finalidad de abarcar la mayor cantidad de autores y con relación a temas de florecimiento humano como desarrollo sostenible, calidad de vida, bienestar subjetivo, vida buena, entre otros…

Con esta información se desarrolló la siguiente aplicación interactiva:

Te invitamos a conocer la herramienta para una exploración bibliográfica de las investigaciones académicas de América Latina sobre Florecimiento Humano. Hasta el momento incluye información de 21 países, con énfasis en México, Chile, Colombia y Brasil.

Siguientes pasos en la investigación...

Con base en los resultados del estudio bibliométrico aplicado en región Latinoamérica, se seleccionaron 57 investigadores expertos en distintas áreas del conocimiento humano, y así tener un acercamiento a distintos puntos de vista desde la economía, la psicología, las ciencias sociales, la ingeniería, el urbanismo, entre otros. También se incluyó a líderes sociales y organizaciones civiles.

Mapeo de Florecimiento Humano en Latinoamérica

En agosto del 2023 emprendimos un estructurado viaje para investigar y así reconocer el panorama que abraza la investigación regional y capacidades de liderazgo en el estudio del Florecimiento Humano en México, Colombia, Chile y Brasil.

El propósito central de este proyecto lidereado por el Tecnológico de Monterrey, con la participación de investigadores de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile y la Universidad de los Andes (TRIADA), y la colaboración de Nossa Terra Firme, es mapear la investigación académica sobre florecimiento humano en América Latina; para el cual nuestra institución, obtuvo un fondo para investigación otorgado por la Templeton World Charity Foundation, (TWCF).

Core Lab: Genomics

What is the Genomics Core Lab?

It is the Laboratory where Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is performed. Its vision is to contribute to strengthening research, knowledge generation, and transfer in Mexico through the generation and analysis of applied genomic data in various areas such as clinical medicine, genomic medicine, agribusiness, food, disease diagnosis, environmental sample study, genomic epidemiology, among others.

We aim to evolve towards a National Genomic Sequencing Laboratory, Certified for specific Sequencing Services and internal and external service.

iSeq 100

The iSeq 100 is an ideal system for sequencing small genomes (bacteria, viruses, plasmids, etc.). It is ideal for carrying out 16s metagenomics studies.

MiSeq

This equipment permits deeper metagenomics studies, performing target gene sequencing, allowing us to obtain up to 15 Gb of information with 25 million readings and read lengths of 2 × 300 bp.

NovaSeq 6000

It is the largest equipment for short-length sequencing on the market; it is used when projects require massive sequencing of samples or to achieve greater sequencing depth and, therefore, more robust sequences.

MinION Mk1B

Es un dispositivo portátil de secuenciación de lecturas largas (hasta 20,000 pb o más), ideal para proyectos que requieren la lectura de regiones genómicas extensas, transcritos completos o la detección de variantes estructurales. Gracias a su capacidad para generar datos en tiempo real y su diseño compacto, es una excelente opción para estudios en campo, diagnósticos rápidos y aplicaciones que se benefician de lecturas más extensas y continuas.

Este equipo está enfocado a realizar estudios de metagenómica más profundos, realizar Secuenciación de genes blanco, nos permite obtener arriba de A 15 Gb de información con 25millones de lecturas and longitudes de lectura de 2 × 300 bp.

NovaSeq 6000

Es el equipo más grande para la realización de secuenciación en longitudes cortas que existe en el mercado. Se utiliza cuando los proyectos requieren secuenciación masiva de muestras o para alcanzar mayor profundidad de secuenciación; por ende, secuencias más robustas.

Accessing and consulting of collections

The special collections of the Tecnológico de Monterrey are available for consultation by the students and collaborators of our institution, as well as the academic community and the general public. However, in order to preserve these cultural assets, it is necessary to comply with certain basic standards that contribute to protecting the materials, to ensure their preservation. The basic access and consultation manuals for each type of collection will be described below.

Documentary collections

Tecnológico de Monterrey’s Special Collections are available to students and collaborators of our institution, as well as to the academic community and general public. However, in order to preserve and protect these cultural assets, certain basic standards must be met, as described in the Access and consultation guide for Tecnológico de Monterrey’s special collections (Spanish version). Materials can be consulted on the Tecnológico de Monterrey libraries portal and by contacting the persons in charge of the collections, to obtain references and arrange an appointment.

Acceso y consulta de las colecciones

Las colecciones especiales del Tecnológico de Monterrey están disponibles para ser consultadas por los alumnos y colaboradores de nuestra institución, así como a la comunidad académica y el público en general. Las obras de las colecciones de arte Tecnológico de Monterrey están disponibles para préstamo para exposición, y/o registro fotográfico. Con el objetivo de preservar estos bienes culturales se requiere cumplir con ciertas normas básicas que contribuyan a proteger las obras de arte y los derechos de autor, mismas que se describirán en el Manual de uso de Colecciones de Arte del Tecnológico de Monterrey. Para consultar la lista de obra de algún campus es necesario ponerse en contacto con el área de Patrimonio Cultural.

Our international programs offer unique experiences and the opportunity to come into contact with different cultures and discover that commonalities far outweigh differences. Each culture is unique, and this experience is enriching anywhere in the world. At Tec de Monterrey, we educate leaders with an entrepreneurial spirit, a sense of humanity and who are internationally competitive. Therefore, as part of our internationalization strategy, we have worked on forging solid relations with hundreds of universities across the planet. To date, we have entered into more than 746 agreements with foreign universities in over 50 countries that are available to you.

A fundamental part of internationalization takes place on the campuses, thanks to the presence of students from every corner of the world. The multicultural environment, which contributes enormous value to the global vision of the Tec de Monterrey community, is the result of the presence of students from more than 70 countries who take classes at the institution’s diverse campuses.

In this reports there is information on international academic experiences of high school students and undergraduate students, as well as the reception of international students belonging to partner universities of Tecnológico de Monterrey. The Vice Rectory for International Affairs at Tecnológico de Monterrey is not involved in the process, management, or selection of participants. To verify the specific requirements and more information of each call, it is important to consult the official sites of each entity provided in this space.

We welcome representatives and delegations from universities and higher education institutions. Requests from government agencies and other educational institutions will be directed to the appropriate department. If you would like to schedule a visit, we invite you to complete the request form. Once the information is received, it will be reviewed, and a schedule will be set up to ensure the objective is achieved.

Academic Delegations Abroad

The aim of the Academic Delegations is to support the global internationalization strategy, aligned with the growth potential of educational activities in different regions, the need for strategic alliances with the most prestigious universities, and new projects that will keep Tecnológico de Monterrey in the international arena.

To consolidate the international presence of Tecnológico de Monterrey, the Academic Delegations fulfill the following functions:

Represent Tec de Monterrey before organizations, universities and institutions.
Detect new academic program opportunities for students and faculty.
Promote the academic programs that Tecnológico de Monterrey offers to foreign students.
Support the different areas of Tec de Monterrey with arrangements and visits to universities, research centers, companies and organizations.
