Research group members
PhD in Educational Innovation from Tecnologico de Monterrey. He coordinates the interdisciplinary research groups "Scaling Reasoning for Complexity for All" and "Educational Technology Unit" at the Institute for the Future of Education of the Tecnologico de Monterrey (Mexico). Also, he is an Associate Professor in the Education Department at the School of Humanities and Education, Tecnologico de Monterrey. Researcher level 2 of the National System of Researchers in Mexico. His research interests are educational innovation and the development and use of technology in education. He focuses his management, research, teaching, extension, and internationalization activities on promoting learning environments that have a positive impact on social and economic transformation.
Ph.D. in Communications and Electronics from the Instituto Politécnico Nacional. Research Professor of the Reasoning for Complexity Group of the Institute for the Future of Education. His main lines of research are in Higher Education and Social Robotics, a line which he has largely developed in recent years with a focus on health and education (from preschool to postgraduate levels). He focuses his projects on the implementation and design of educational initiatives, with innovation in Education 4.0, as a means of transformation and social impact. He has presented several research articles, collaborated in book chapters, and participated in different conferences.
He is a Level I Researcher in the National System of Researchers before CONACYT in the Engineering and Science Section.
Doctor of Engineering, Master of Design, Education, and Technology, and Industrial Designer. Associate Professor in the Design Department at Tecnologico de Monterrey and researcher at the Educational Technology Research Unit of the Institute for the Future of Education. Founding member of the Inter-University Design Workshop in Mexico City and peer reviewer of Design Programs in Mexico for COMAPROD. Author of various academic research projects on education and digital platform design, as well as accessibility and universal design projects for the public and private sectors. Speaker at national and international forums and author of various indexed publications on open education and inclusive digital educational platform design. Her areas of research interest are Design Methodologies, Design for Inclusion, and Transition Design. She has conducted research stays at institutions such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (USA), RWTH Aachen University (Germany), University of Leeds (United Kingdom), and Chiba University (Japan). She belongs to various international research networks such as the Knowledge Equity Network and the Systemic Design Association. She is also a member of the Mexican Council for Educational Research and belongs to the National System of Researchers (SNII) in Mexico.
Ph.D. in Engineering (Renewable Energies) from the Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán. Research Professor in the Educational Technology group at the Institute for the Future of Education and faculty member in the Department of Computer Science, School of Engineering and Sciences, Tecnológico de Monterrey. Recipient of the Tecnos Nuevo León 4.0 Award and recognized at Level II by the National System of Researchers of Mexico. His research focuses on the development of educational platforms, machine learning applied to data storytelling, and the teaching of computational thinking in the contexts of energy, environment, and climate change.
He holds a Ph.D. in Humanistic Studies from Tecnológico de Monterrey. He is currently a Professor in the Department of Humanistic Studies at the School of Humanities and Education, Tecnológico de Monterrey, Campus Guadalajara. His research focuses on Gender Studies, Economic Ethics, and Educational Innovation, with a particular emphasis on Social Entrepreneurship and Complex Thinking. He has published more than 200 articles in academic journals across over 20 countries and has received multiple awards for his contributions to educational innovation.
PhD in Operation Management from the Tecnologico de Monterrey, Mexico. Associate Researcher at the Educational Technology Unit of the Institute for the Future of Education at the Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico City campus). His interests are educational innovation, serious games, optimization, logistics and supply chains. Professor of the Department of Industrial Engineering at Campus Ciudad de México. Creator of the GOAL Project online platform and designer of the LOST Logistics Simulator. He has published more than 25 articles in Scopus Conferences and Journals.
Jhonattan Miranda holds a PhD in Engineering Sciences with a concentration in Product Design and a master's degree in engineering sciences with a concentration in Manufacturing Systems, both from Tecnológico de Monterrey. He earned his bachelor's degree in Mechatronics Engineering with a specialization in Robotics from Tecnológico Nacional de México and completed an academic residency at the University of California, Berkeley in 2016.
He has served as an adjoint researcher in the Product Innovation and Advanced Artificial Intelligence groups at the School of Engineering of Tecnológico de Monterrey. He is currently an adjoint researcher in the interdisciplinary research group Scaling Complex Reasoning for All at the Institute for the Future of Education, where he also teaches as adjunct faculty in the PhD in Engineering Sciences program. In addition, he works as a consultant in educational and technological innovation, digital transformation, entrepreneurship, and competitive intelligence for the design of projects seeking funding.
He holds a granted patent in micromachining. His research interests focus on the integrated design of intelligent and sustainable products, as well as teaching-learning systems within the framework of Education 5.0. He is a Level I member of the Mexican National System of Researchers.
PhD studies in Artificial Intelligence from the INSA-LAAS in Toulouse, France. Interest in Machine Learning, Data Management and Computer Vision applications, in which he has advised 17 PhD theses and 40 Master's Theses. Author of more than 150 articles in JCR, congresses and book chapters. He works as professor–researcher, he was the responsible of the Intelligent Systems Research group (2007-2015), and head of the Graduate Programs on Computer Sciences at Tecnologico de Monterrey (2005-2016), Mexico. Dr. González Mendoza leads several Mexican and European Commission research projects (as local chair), Mexican National Researcher SNII, level II, is Former President of the Mexican Society for Artificial Intelligence (2016-2018). Regular Member of the Mexican Academy of Sciences and Regular Member of the Mexican Academy of Computing, Young Scientist at the World Economic Forum.
Carolina Alcantar Nieblas holds a Ph.D. in Education. She is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute for the Future of Education, Tecnológico de Monterrey. She has extensive experience in educational research, initially on issues of school violence and cyberbullying, and more recently on social entrepreneurship competencies, open educational resources, and digital transformation in higher education. Her work includes the development and validation of psychometric instruments and theoretical models using structural equation modeling. She is a member of the Mexican Council of Educational Research and a Candidate in Mexico’s National System of Researchers.
Davis Velarde-Camaqui is a psychologist and PhD in Educational Innovation, currently Postdoctoral Researcher at Tec de Monterrey. Recognized as a researcher by the RENACYT system in Peru. Currently, he works as a researcher in the area of Educational Technology, leading projects focused on the use of emerging technologies and innovative methodologies to improve educational processes. He is the creator of www.EDUAR.net, a patent-registered platform that enhances educational accessibility and teacher professional development with Augmented Reality. Passionate about Open Educational Resources (OER), he drives their global adoption through initiatives such as www.CallForScience.org, winning the OEGLOBAL global award in open research, promoting equity and modernization in education
Cristina Sofia Torres Castillo holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Polytechnique Montréal. She has taught in the STEM field, offering courses such as Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Ecology. She is currently a Postdoctoral Researcher in the interdisciplinary IRG-R4C group at the Institute for the Future of Education (IFE), Tecnológico de Monterrey. Her main activities focus on fostering computational thinking skills, designing digital platforms, and developing sustainable projects aimed at addressing global challenges such as water scarcity and promoting the adoption of electric vehicles.
PhD in Psychology with a Master’s in Neurobiology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). Currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Institute for the Future of Education at Tecnologico de Monterrey. Member of the National System of Researchers (SECIHTI) in the area of Behavioral and Educational Sciences. His academic career includes scientific publications on cognition, electroencephalography, and learning disorders in children. At present, his research focuses on learning in higher education, psychoeducational assessment, and the design of digital learning environments.
TECNOS Nuevo León 4.0 Award – 2024
Granted by the Government of Nuevo León and the Nuevo León 4.0 initiative (Nuevo León 4.0) to the project E4C&CT: Ecosystem for Scaling Computational Thinking and Reasoning for Complexity, for its integration of Industry 4.0 technologies and its social, environmental, and economic impact (Monterrey, Nuevo León, March 2025).
International Award 2024 – Open Education Awards for Excellence
(Open with Artificial Intelligence Award 2024: AI and Open Education for All), granted by the Board of Directors of Open Education Global and the Evaluation Committee of the 2024 Awards. The event featured the participation of approximately 120 projects from 29 countries, competing in 16 categories. The evaluation criteria included open education, innovation, and originality. Tecnológico de Monterrey was recognized for its project “AI and Open Education for All”, highlighting its contribution to the use of artificial intelligence to promote equitable access and improve educational quality worldwide (Brisbane, Australia, November 2024).
International Award 2024 “QS Reimagine Education Awards”
Granted by QS Quacquarelli Symonds (Lifelong Learning Gold Award: Reimagine Education Awards & Conference) to the project “Cultivating Complex Reasoning Skills to Empower Lifelong Learners.” The event brought together more than 1,300 projects from around the world competing in 18 categories. The evaluation criteria included: project approach, impact, scalability, innovation, and originality (London, England, December 2024).

Maker & STEM Education: Equal access to progressive pedagogies to boost STEM development for all women

EcoEmprende: Empowering SMEs to Advance Sustainability and Innovation
This project is funded by the Secretariat of Education, Science, Technology and Innovation of Mexico City (SECTEI), under the Binomios IPN–ITESM 2024 call, with a total allocated budget of $1,748,000 MXN (~USD 87,400), of which $874,723 MXN (~USD 43,700) are provided by SECTEI and an additional $874,723 MXN jointly contributed by ITESM and IPN. The implementation period is from July 2024 to April 2026. The technical leads are Dr. Leonardo David Glasserman Morales (ITESM) and Dr. Amadeo Argüelles Cruz (IPN).
