Hambre Cero is a Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) established by the United Nations. This initiative seeks to reduce food poverty and food waste by 2030.

By 2022, it has been detected that more than 24 million people in Mexico live in food poverty.

Tecnológico de Monterrey is an institution of society for society and that is why we join in the development of these objectives, promoting actions that have a significant impact. By 2023, we committed to collecting 80 tons of beans, rice and oil to donate to banks that are part of the National Food Bank Network.

Hunger is not the problem, people are the solution.

Core Lab: Preclinical Research

What is the Preclinical Research Core Lab?

It is a space designed to support research, education, and development activities.

Our goal is to support researchers in the development of experimental models for safety and efficacy testing of drugs, food, medical devices, among many others, as well as the generation of knowledge.

The unit assists researchers and offers external services in developing Experimental Models for safety and effectiveness tests.

Preclinical Research CoreLab has a Type C Animal Facility located at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Monterrey Campus.

CICUAL

The Institutional Committee for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (CICUAL) has the objectives of overseeing the Institutional Plan for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, as well as reviewing the facilities, validating operating procedures, and evaluating research protocols and other proposals involving the use of animals; following the specifications of NOM-062-200-1999.

CICUAL will ensure that all the rules stipulated in the Internal Regulations of the Tecnológico de Monterrey Biotherium are complied with.

¿Qué es el Core Lab Investigación Preclínica?

Es un espacio diseñado para apoyar actividades de investigación, educación y desarrollo.

Nuestro objetivo es apoyar a investigadores e investigadoras en el desarrollo de modelos experimientales para pruebas de seguridad y eficacia de fármacos, alimentos, dispositivos médicos, entre muchos otros; así como la generación conocimiento.

Unidad que se crea para auxiliar a los investigadores y ofrecer servicio hacia el exterior en el desarrollo de Modelos Experimentales para pruebas de seguridad y eficacia.

El CoreLab de Investigación Preclínica cuenta con un Bioterio tipo C con sede en la Escuela de Medicina y Ciencias de la Salud, campus Monterrey.

El Comité Institucional para el Cuidado y Uso de Animales de Laboratorio (CICUAL) tiene como objetivos vigilar el Plan Institucional para el Cuidado y Uso de los Animales de Laboratorio, así como revisar las instalaciones, validar los procedimientos de operación y evaluar los protocolos de investigación y otras propuestas que involucre el uso de animales; siguiendo las especificaciones de la NOM-062-200-1999.

El CICUAL asegurará que se cumplan todas las normas estipuladas en el Reglamento Interno del Bioterio del Tecnológico de Monterrey.

Core Lab: Genomics

What is the Genomics Core Lab?

It is the Laboratory where Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) is performed. Its vision is to contribute to strengthening research, knowledge generation, and transfer in Mexico through the generation and analysis of applied genomic data in various areas such as clinical medicine, genomic medicine, agribusiness, food, disease diagnosis, environmental sample study, genomic epidemiology, among others.

We aim to evolve towards a National Genomic Sequencing Laboratory, Certified for specific Sequencing Services and internal and external service.

Equipment and technology

iSeq 100

The iSeq 100 is an ideal system for sequencing small genomes (bacteria, viruses, plasmids, etc.). It is ideal for carrying out 16s metagenomics studies.

MiSeq

This equipment permits deeper metagenomics studies, performing target gene sequencing, allowing us to obtain up to 15 Gb of information with 25 million readings and read lengths of 2 × 300 bp.

NovaSeq 6000

It is the largest equipment for short-length sequencing on the market; it is used when projects require massive sequencing of samples or to achieve greater sequencing depth and, therefore, more robust sequences.

MinION Mk1B

Es un dispositivo portátil de secuenciación de lecturas largas (hasta 20,000 pb o más), ideal para proyectos que requieren la lectura de regiones genómicas extensas, transcritos completos o la detección de variantes estructurales. Gracias a su capacidad para generar datos en tiempo real y su diseño compacto, es una excelente opción para estudios en campo, diagnósticos rápidos y aplicaciones que se benefician de lecturas más extensas y continuas.

Este equipo está enfocado a realizar estudios de metagenómica más profundos, realizar Secuenciación de genes blanco, nos permite obtener arriba de A 15 Gb de información con 25millones de lecturas and longitudes de lectura de 2 × 300 bp.

NovaSeq 6000

Es el equipo más grande para la realización de secuenciación en longitudes cortas que existe en el mercado. Se utiliza cuando los proyectos requieren secuenciación masiva de muestras o para alcanzar mayor profundidad de secuenciación; por ende, secuencias más robustas.
