Responsible AI: Ethical Use

At Tec de Monterrey, we see technology as a powerful ally in achieving our educational goals. When used correctly, it facilitates access to information, creates knowledge, and opens doors to learning and social well-being. AI holds enormous potential to benefit our community, provided it is used ethically and responsibly in the educational processes, projects, and activities of our institution.

As technology advances, we face significant challenges, such as ensuring data quality and understanding its impact on decision-making. While AI complements human work and boosts efficiency, it is crucial to use it responsibly to avoid biases and maximize its benefits. For this reason, we have created resources and guidelines to guide the ethical use of AI tools in teaching and learning processes.

See the guidelines here

The Future of AI

In recent years, AI has advanced significantly thanks to neural networks and large volumes of data. However, some experts believe that simply increasing the size of models will no longer yield significant benefits, calling for more creative ways to improve

Access to quality data is crucial for AI’s progress. Fields like biology and healthcare hold immense potential. Visual and video data will unlock new opportunities in areas like medicine, robotics, and automation.

Another trend is the development of autonomous agents—systems that make decisions and adapt in real-time—revolutionizing sectors like logistics and education with smarter solutions.

While we will see advancements in visual models with applications in medicine and security, challenges remain, including improving interaction with the physical world and common-sense reasoning. Tec de Monterrey is committed to preparing new generations to lead in this field, ensuring the ethical and fair development of AI

Mitos y realidades

Myths

"AI will replace all human jobs."
While automation will impact some jobs, AI won’t eliminate most occupations; it will transform them. Many professions requiring complex skills, creativity, or empathy will still need people.

"AI makes decisions completely on its own without human input."
This is not true. AI operates under human supervision and within the boundaries set by programmers.

"AI has emotions and self-awareness."
AI lacks consciousness or feelings. It processes data and responds to patterns but doesn’t “feel” or “think” like humans.

"AI is always objective and unbiased."
Not entirely. AI can reflect the biases present in the data it’s trained on, leading to ethical concerns.

"Only tech experts can understand AI."
While creating AI requires advanced technical skills, you don’t need to be a data scientist to learn how to use it. People from various fields can apply it to their work.

Realities

AI is revolutionizing many industries.
From medicine to education, AI is changing how things are done. For example, it helps detect diseases with greater accuracy and personalizes learning methods in education.

AI needs good data to perform well.
The quality of AI’s output depends directly on the data it’s trained with. Incomplete or flawed data leads to unreliable results.

Today’s AI isn’t universal.
Most current AI applications are designed for specific tasks and cannot perform beyond their programming.

AI usage raises ethical challenges.
Issues like privacy, fairness, and accountability must be addressed with an ethical approach.

AI complements human work.
Rather than replacing people, AI enhances efficiency, enabling workers to focus on more creative or complex tasks. This makes AI a tool that adds value rather than taking it away.

Educational Artificial Intelligence Strategy

At Tec de Monterrey, we use Artificial Intelligence (AI) to transform the way we teach and learn. This includes the use of virtual assistants, adaptive assessments, and data analytics to personalize the educational experience. Our focus is on exploring, implementing, and evaluating AI tools that help teachers create more meaningful experiences for their students. This is achieved by adapting or transforming teaching strategies and integrating AI into their disciplines, which also better prepares them for their professional fields. In this way, we ensure that learning becomes more dynamic and tailored to each student’s needs.

For this reason, we aim to equip students with key AI-related skills, both general and specific to their fields of study, so they are ready for a world where this technology is increasingly relevant. This ensures our students graduate prepared to tackle the challenges of today’s workforce, equipped with the skills needed to excel in a future shaped by technology. Furthermore, integrating AI into education represents a significant shift that impacts various areas of knowledge, inviting us to reflect on the ethical challenges that come with its implementation.

To achieve this, it is essential to prepare and support teachers. Our strategy includes training activities, exploration spaces, and innovation initiatives that allow them to familiarize themselves with AI tools and design learning experiences integrated with these technologies. We offer a wide range of training options, from introductory courses to learn how to use AI, to specialized boot camps. ChatGPT

For our Tec de Monterrey community, we have developed TECgpt, an ecosystem of generative AI tools like ChatGPT and Skill Studio that enables the creation of purpose-specific models. These models can be used directly or integrated into other tools, all within a private, secure, managed, and customizable environment designed exclusively for our institution.

Skill Studio is an AI tool created by Tec de Monterrey as part of TECgpt, designed to simplify the setup and reuse of prompts. Essentially, it allows users to create "skills" with predefined variables, making it easier and faster to generate standardized and automatable tasks for both educational and administrative purposes. Once created, these "skills" can be shared as templates for institutional use, saving time and improving efficiency for those who use them.

Examples of "skills" already developed include: "Create a problem-based scenario," "Design a challenge," "Plan the strategy for your educational unit," and "Create a learning activity." These tools serve as starting points, leaving it up to the teacher to verify and adjust the results according to their specific needs.

So far, more than 800 "skills" have been developed, focusing on areas such as content design, evaluation, and adapting strategies to specific contexts. Examples include Python calculations, evaluation reports, character creation for scripts, and concept generation based on storytelling. Skill Studio is available to all Tec de Monterrey faculty and staff who request access.

Within the ecosystem of TECgpt tools, we also have an institutional chatbot that allows teachers and staff to interact with one of the most advanced AI models through a simple and user-friendly interface.

Users can ask questions via text or voice, solve doubts, upload documents to interact with them, and even generate images. All of this takes place in a safe and controlled environment, without worrying about data privacy, as it is not used to train future models.
