Guidelines for the Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence
Intended for students and faculty of Tecnologico de Monterrey

At Tecnologico de Monterrey, we have always considered technology as a fundamental ally in achieving our educational goals. We conceive of technology as a means that, when used properly, promotes the creation of knowledge, enhances access to information, creates opportunities for learning and social well-being, and enriches the educational and creative experience of our community.

The Guidelines for the Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence serve as an important reference for adopting and adapting artificial intelligence tools within our educational programs and institutional context. We aim to use these tools proactively and responsibly in all teaching and learning processes.

We invite you to review these documents.

For any comments, please write to: integridad.académica@itesm.mx

Commitment of Tec de Monterrey to the Ethical Use of AI

Aware that learning and ethical reflections regarding the incorporation of AI in the educational field require maintaining an open and fruitful dialogue with other institutions at both national and international levels, we proactively seek to connect with spaces that allow us to stay updated with these discussions.

Learn about some of the efforts in which Tec de Monterrey actively participates:

  • The Rome Call for AI Ethics initiative, which promotes and strengthens the ethical perspective in the use of artificial intelligence tools in collaboration with international organizations, governments, institutions, and the private sector, reaffirming the commitment to use them respecting the principles of transparency, inclusion, responsibility, impartiality, reliability, security, and privacy.
  • The Artificial Intelligence in Educations Summit, held within the framework of the IFE Conference 2025, which brings together leaders and specialists to facilitate interdisciplinary discussions on the role of artificial intelligence in educational practices.
  • The collaboration with the International Center for Academic Integrity, to exchange best practices on the use of artificial intelligence tools while safeguarding academic integrity, among others.
Policy on the Use of AI Tools for Staff or Faculty

If you are a staff member at Tec de Monterrey, familiarize yourself with the Policy on the Use of AI Tools, which establishes a general framework for the ethical, responsible, integral, and secure use and incorporation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools within the Institution.

Consult it at: mitec >> Entorno Normativa Institucional >> Política de uso de herramientas de IA

Authorship Policy

Giving due credit to the original and intellectual work of the researchers involved in the research process is essential for producing high-quality, impactful research that generates credibility and trust among the target audience.

The Authorship Policy of Tecnológico de Monterrey aims to establish guidelines and general definitions as a reference framework for the assignment of authorship and acknowledgements in the research publications of our Institution.

If you are a staff member at Tec de Monterrey, stay tuned for its upcoming publication at mitec.

Our Program

In 2017, the Academic Dishonesty (DA) Program evolved to become the Academic Integrity Program.

The purpose of this program is to strengthen the academic integrity at Tecnológico de Monterrey, through a set of actions oriented to raise awareness and educate the community about integrity, to contribute to responsible action in all contexts of institutional life.

Our mission is to promote a positive approach to issues related to academic honesty and strengthen our commitment to academic excellence.

Our Values
close

It is the habit of conducting oneself with the truth and of being consistent. In the academic field it is reflected in the commitment to your training process regarding what you know and what you need to learn.

close

It is the ability to act in accordance with one's own values and convictions, despite fear. Courage can be developed in environments where it is tested; the day-to-day life presents opportunities to make decisions, learn from them, and grow.

close

It is the ability to be responsible and accountable for your own decisions, actions and omissions in your academic life.

close

Recognize your own value and that of others, not treating others as a means to achieve your goals. In the teaching-learning process, collaborative work depends on mutual respect and our ability to fulfill the agreements we make.

close

It is a value that gives individuals the ability, not only to recognize, but to carry out a previously agreed task or action. This responsibility enables the execution of this activity in pursuit of collective benefit. In other words, it is the ability to act with the personal and professional virtues required for personal growth, the correct exercise of a profession and the development of citizenship.

It involves recognizing that all people deserve equal consideration and respect. In the academic field it means giving credit to the work of others, not demanding preferential treatment, knowing the rules and following them.

It is the harmony between beliefs, decisions and actions, and the continuous adherence to values and principles. You act with coherence and consistency when you always proceed in accordance with your own principles and values, but which have the common good as their main goal. Incoherence, on the other hand, is the basis of simulation and deception.

Our Structure
The program is structured into two dimensions: one aimed at education and prevention, and the other one at managing breaches of integrity. Two very important roles intervene in each dimension for the operation of the program:

Dimension of Education in Integrity

It is in charge of carrying out activities aimed at educating and raising awareness about academic integrity.

The role that supports these activities is the Ambassador of Academic Integrity.

Academic Integrity Ambassadors.

They are professors who serve as spokespersons and advisors for the program on campus. They carry out activities aimed to raise awareness about the importance of integrity and prevent breaches of academic integrity. They work together with the Campus Academic Integrity Committees (CIAC) to provide guidance to students who have committed breaches of academic integrity. We currently have 22 Academic Integrity Ambassadors.

Dimension for Managing Breaches of Academic Integrity

It defines the operating standards of the program, addresses, and provides follow-up on breaches of academic integrity (FIA, by its acronym in Spanish) committed by students.

The faculty who carries out this activity is part of the Campus Academic Integrity Committee (CIAC, by its acronym in Spanish) and the National Academic Integrity Committee (CIAN, by its acronym in Spanish).

Campus Academic Integrity Committees (CIAC)

They are groups of teachers and collaborators responsible for analyzing and deliberating on cases of breaches of academic integrity. They are in charge of determining the consequences applicable to students who commit breaches of academic integrity, ensuring at all times that these are formative rather than punitive. We currently have 220 professors who are part of 32 Campus Academic Integrity Committees (CIAC).

National Academic Integrity Committee (CIAN)

It is the group of teachers and collaborators in charge of analyzing and resolving appeal cases presented by students who have committed breaches of academic integrity and who have been sanctioned with a temporary suspension or permanent withdrawal from the Institution.
