Overview
Dr. Toby Miller is a distinguished professor, author, and researcher specializing in cultural studies and media. Throughout his career, he has held academic appointments at renowned institutions. He spent many years as a full professor at New York University (NYU) and as a Distinguished Professor at the University of California, Riverside (UC Riverside).
He served as president of the Cultural Studies Association (United States) from 2019 to 2021. His research interests encompass media, social theory, cultural studies, technology, labor, gender, race, class, sports, citizenship, politics, the environment, and the Americas.
The author and editor of over 50 volumes, Toby Miller’s work has been translated into 11 languages. His most recent books include Why Journalism? A Polemic (2024), Violence (2022), A COVID Charter, A Better World (2021), How Green Is Your Smartphone? (2020), Greenwashing Culture (2017), and Greenwashing Sport (2017), among others. He is currently the editor of Social Identities: Journal for the Study of Race, Nation and Culture, and Open Cultural Studies, and was formerly the editor of Television & New Media, Social Text, and the Journal of Sport and Social Issues.
Toby Miller joined Tecnológico de Monterrey as a Distinguished Professor in Media and Cultural Studies for the Business School and EGADE Business School.
