Dr. Peter Hayward Jones is a Distinguished Professor in Systemic Design at Tecnológico de Monterrey’s Mexico City Campus. He also holds an appointment as an associate professor at OCAD University in Toronto, Canada, and advises on graduate research. He teaches systemic design and mixed-methods research for complex systems, including healthcare, information services, and public sector governance.

Peter Jones is a cofounder and board member of the Systemic Design Association (SDA) and editor-in-chief of Contexts – The Systemic Design Journal. He is also a co-founder and academic director of the Flourishing Enterprise Institute, a research group that studies systemic management innovations for sustainability strategy (flourishing economics) and strategic planning in complexity.

Dr. Jones specializes in tools for thinking, collaboration, and professional practice as a system designer. His work includes custom software for cognitive tasks, human-computer teaming in simulations, and user experience design for online platforms in fields such as science, law, and healthcare.

His research focuses on systemic design in complex areas like healthcare and strategic management. He is a leading scholar in dialogic design and collaborative foresight for strategic design planning for future challenges. He is also recognized for his contributions to systemic service design, flourishing cultures, and organizational learning and innovation.

Overview

Dr. Gabriel Luna-Bárcenas was a senior researcher and professor at CINVESTAV (Center for Research and Advanced Studies of the National Polytechnic Institute) in Queretaro, Mexico. He was also a senior researcher at the CID-DESC, an industrial R&D center. He has taught graduate-level courses in areas such as kinetics of materials, polymer science, biomaterials, chemistry of materials, advanced mathematics, and advanced thermodynamics.

As a chemical/materials science engineer, his work has focused on biotechnology and the study and development of nanomaterials for industrial and medical applications, such as biopolymers and biomaterials.

Since 2008, Gabriel Luna-Bárcenas has been delegate of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (IUPAC), in the Polymer Division, for the Mexico and Latin America region, and since 2015, he has been president of the Nanoscience and Nanotechnology Network of the National Council of Humanities, Sciences and Technologies (Consejo Nacional de Humanidades, Ciencias y Tecnologías or CONAHCYT in Spanish) in Mexico.

His research interests include the synthesis and characterization of biopolymers; nanocomposites for biomedical and environmental applications; spectroscopic characterization of materials; green solvent technologies based on deep eutectic solvents (DESs); relaxation phenomena in bionanocomposites; and R&D for industry-related projects. He has supervised more than 24 Ph.D. theses and has published more than 250 scientific papers and 2 books.

Gabriel Luna-Bárcenas joined Tecnológico de Monterrey as a Distinguished Professor in Smart Biomaterials for the Institute of Advanced Materials for Sustainable Manufacturing and the School of Engineering and Sciences.

Dr. Zaida Muxí is associate professor at the Department of Urbanism and Spatial Planning at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), where she teaches urbanism and gender. She is part of the research group called QURBIS - Quality of Urban Life: Innovation, Sustainability and Social Engagement. Her research at UPC has focused on three main areas: gender studies in planning and architecture, housing and neighborhoods, and the impact of globalization on the urban fabric (society and buildings). She is an architect and researcher with more than 30 years of experience and a profound knowledge of gender equality principles and their application in the urban context (for example, gender quality indicators).

From 2015 to 2019, Zaida Muxí was the director of Urban Planning for the Municipality of Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Spain, where she oversaw urban planning, housing, urban ecology, public roads, and civic affairs. She was also responsible for implementing the Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI, in Spanish), funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

In 2023, she was awarded the Federico E. Mariscal Distinguished Chair by the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM). In 2024, she was appointed Representative of Women’s and Feminist Movements on the HIC (Habitat International Coalition) Council and participated in the World Urban Forum (WUF) organized by UN-Habitat in Cairo, Egypt.

Dr. Stuart Candy is a pioneer of experiential futures, a family of practices for supporting collective foresight through media, the arts, and design. With a background spanning law, the history and philosophy of science, and musical theatre, for two decades he has seeded and grown approaches to rigorous imagining and co-creation that are now used worldwide.

A frequent advisor and collaborator on cultural, educational, governance, and organizational initiatives, Dr. Candy has worked with Fortune 100 companies, UN agencies, the International Red Cross, World Energy Council, Smithsonian Institution, Dubai Museum of the Future, Oxford University, the BBC, The New York Times, the Obama Foundation, U.S. Conference of Mayors, and cities from Melbourne to Mexico.

He has held academic appointments at leading universities and design schools including the inaugural professorship in Social Foresight at Parsons School of Design in New York, and fellowships at the East-West Center (Hawaii), Museum of Tomorrow (Brazil), INK (India), Berggruen Institute, World Economic Forum, and The Long Now Foundation.

Dr. Candy is a member of the OECD’s Expert Group on Strategic Foresight, chair of the Center for PostNatural History, and founding director of the creative research unit and award-winning publisher Situation Lab. He recently served as curatorial advisor for NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory’s Getty-backed exhibition in Los Angeles, “Blended Worlds: Experiments in Interplanetary Imagination”.
