For Tec, entrepreneurship is the human action of starting something with the objective of generating change and transformation that will result in a better world. We view entrepreneurship as an activity that must be anchored in the Tec values of innovation, consciousness, and inclusion, while creating shared value. 

Para el Tec, el emprendimiento es la acción humana de iniciar algo con el objetivo de generar un cambio y una transformación que resulte en un mundo mejor. Vemos el emprendimiento como una actividad que debe estar anclada en los valores del Tec, es decir, un emprendimiento innovador, consciente e incluyente y que genere valor compartido.

Hi, my name is Aurora Ollinger, and I was a Nike ambassador and member of the national team for the NACAC Championships in Athletics.

I loved sports even when I was a little girl and began practicing athletics in high school. I started to do relatively well and the people around me noticed that maybe there was a hidden talent there. While I continued practicing, I became more and more enthusiastic about training and that was when I said: “I want to join and be on the team.” 

Things began to go well for me. After seeing me perform, the coaches supported me and I was able to join the Borregos Athletics Team in high school, with a sports scholarship. In the meantime, my application form to study Medicine at Tec had arrived…

I had tried so hard and, in the end, my final grades were among the best averages in the class. My two goals had been fulfilled, but it wouldn’t be easy. 

At Tec, I belong to two academic societies: ANS, a neurosurgery chapter, and the other for Internal Medicine. Right now, I am also participating in the Covid-19 Research Protocol in Mexico City in relation to healthcare workers, which I find really interesting and exciting. 
 

My goals became more difficult and unreachable as time went by, which was a sign that I must be doing something right. I achieved something I had been pursuing for several semesters, attaining academic excellence. In the summer of 2018, I was chosen to be a Nike ambassador to promote a culture of exercise and physical activity. And, a year later, I qualified to the North American, Central American and Caribbean Championships in Athletics, representing Mexico. The first time I represented Mexico internationally, I came third in the 4x100m relay. 

Like any athlete, this had been a dream of mine ever since I started running. But just when everything seemed to be going so incredibly well in my degree and sports, I injured my tendon and had to stop running for a month. I was so discouraged and even though I kept on going to the gym, it affected my performance, which was reflected in a competition where I didn’t do well at all owing to my lack of training related to the injury. 

In order to surmount such a huge obstacle, I had to focus on my initial objectives and ask myself why I was doing things, remember my motivation. This formed my new mindset, which, together with the support of the people who were important to me, gave me the determination to keep going.

Every day, I reflect on my path and what has led me to where I am now, while continuing to pursue even greater objectives. I believe I can change the world with my attitude, living each moment and living it well… And being very happy.

I am an Outlier because my story starts at Tec and ends up changing the world.

Cuando me lastimé el tendón mucha gente me decía: “No vas a poder seguir corriendo.” El atletismo es lo que hago, ¿cómo voy a dejar mi pasión? ¿cómo elijo entre dos cosas que amo? He tenido breakdowns, como todos… No puedes ser persistente todo el tiempo, llegas hasta un punto donde encuentras una barrera y son pocos los que tienen la osadía de atravesarla.

Hola, soy Aurora Ollinger, fui embajadora de Nike y seleccionada nacional para el Campeonato de Atletismo por la NACAC.

Desde chiquita me gustó el deporte, y empecé a practicar atletismo en prepa. Me empezó a ir relativamente bien y la gente a mi alrededor se daba cuenta de que tal vez por ahí tenía un talento oculto, que me convertiría en una gran atleta mexicana. Mientras seguí practicando, más me entusiasmaban los entrenamientos, y fue cuando dije: “Quiero entrar y estar en el equipo”. 

Las cosas empezaron a tornarse a mi favor, los coaches me apoyaron viendo mi desempeño y pude entrar desde prepa al Equipo de Borregos de Atletismo con beca deportiva. Mientras esto pasaba mi aplicación para poder entrar al Tec a estudiar Medicina había llegado…

Me había esforzado tanto y al final mis calificaciones finales estaban dentro de los mejores promedios de la generación. Mis dos metas se habían cumplido, pero no sería fácil.

Dentro del Tec estoy en 2 sociedades académicas: la ANS, un capítulo de neurocirugía, y en otra de Medicina Interna. Por el momento, estoy participando igualmente en el Protocolo de Investigación del Covid-19 en CDMX con respecto a los trabajadores de la salud, lo que me interesa y me emociona bastante. 

Mis metas se volvieron más difíciles e inalcanzables a medida que pasaba el tiempo, lo que era señal de que algo debía estar haciendo bien. Lo que había estado intentando desde varios semestres anteriores lo logré hace un semestre, que fue tener excelencia académica. En el verano del 2018 me seleccionaron para ser embajadora de Nike con el fin de promover la cultura del ejercicio y actividad física en atletas mexicanas. Y un año después clasifiqué al NACAC, el Campeonato de Norteamérica, Centroamérica y El Caribe, representando a México. La primera vez que representaba a México internacionalmente, quedé en 3er lugar en el relevo 4x100m. 

Este había sido un sueño mío desde que empecé a correr, como el sueño de cualquier deportista. Pero cuando todo parecía estar yendo increíblemente con mi carrera y el deporte me lesioné el tendón y dejé de correr por un mes. Esto me desmotivó bastante y aunque seguí yendo al gimnasio mi rendimiento se vio muy afectando en una competencia en la que no me fue bien por mi falta de preparación debido a la lesión. 

Para sobrepasar un obstáculo de tal magnitud tuve que centrarme en mis primeros objetivos y preguntarme por qué hacía las cosas, recordar mi motivación. Esto formó mi nuevo mentalidad y el apoyo de esas personas importantes para mí, fue lo que me dio la determinación para seguir adelante.

Día a día recuerdo mi camino y lo que me ha llevado a donde estoy ahora, sigo buscando objetivos más grandes. Yo creo que puedo cambiar al mundo con mi actitud, viviendo cada momento y vivirlo bien… Y ser muy feliz.

Even though I graduated as an architect from Tec, I began to forge my own path by selling clothes in Italy. So, when people ask me, how did you do it?... By taking risks and living life, it’s all a matter of believing in yourself and believing in your dream.

Hi, my name is Lalo Tamez and I am an architect, entrepreneur and image designer in the international fashion industry.

From a very young age, I demonstrated a talent for creativity and design. I chose to study architecture at Tec de Monterrey and that is how I discovered my passion for the area of aesthetics. During this stage of my life, I participated in cultural diffusion. My goal was always to work in fashion after graduating, so I made the most of this opportunity to design costumes, choreographies and dance shows.

This led to my dream of going to live in Italy to work in the fashion industry, so, as soon as I graduated, I looked for a job that would be good for my CV and started to save up for my trip.

My first job was in Vitromacia, where I designed exhibition halls and booths. After working for a year and a half, I sold my car, saved up as much money as I could and left for Italy with the idea of staying at a youth hostel while looking for somewhere to live, but, coincidentally, a friend from university contacted me. I told him about my dream and he offered to put me up in his home in Reggio Emilia.

Time went by and after living there for a year, I was offered a job at Armani and Max Mara, so I ended up working for Max Mara as a visual merchandising consultant for the brand’s 850 stores worldwide.
Four years later, I decided to go back to Mexico and start over. I sent my CV out everywhere and presented myself as an all-rounder. I was the fashion editor for GQ since this was the closest option I could find to creative work, and, although I had fun, it was exhausting since I had to cover all the events but for very little pay. However, I had faith that if I did what I loved, I would want for nothing. Not long after, while at New York Fashion Week,

I realized that writing about fashion wasn’t enough for me, so when I got back, I resigned and started over again.

I moved to Puebla looking for new challenges and launched my own clothing brand, designing wedding and haute couture dresses in my very own workshop. During this stage of my life, I had the opportunity to adopt a little girl and become a father. My daughter became my greatest inspiration. Circumstances led me to close my workshop and go back to Monterrey to start new projects. I feel satisfied because I have always been true to my dreams and everything I have done has been with passion. 

I am an Outlier because my story starts at Tec and ends up changing the world.

Y aún siendo arquitecto egresado del Tec empecé como vendedor de ropa en Italia para abrirme camino. Entonces si me preguntan ¿Cómo le hice?... Arriesgándome y viviendo la vida, todo es cuestión de creer en ti y creer en tu sueño.

Hola soy Lalo Tamez y soy arquitecto, emprendedor y diseñador de imagen en la industria de moda a nivel internacional.

Desde pequeño he sido talentoso en el área de la creatividad y diseño de imagen. Escogí estudiar la carrera de arquitectura en el Tec de Monterrey y así fue como encontré mi pasión por la parte estética. En esta etapa de mi vida me involucré en difusión cultural. Mi intención siempre fue dedicarme a la moda después de graduarme, entonces aproveché esta oportunidad para diseñar vestuarios, coreografías y espectáculos de danza.

Así nació mi sueño de irme a vivir a Italia para trabajar en la industria de la moda, y en cuanto me gradué busqué un trabajo que me ayudara a mi curriculum y ahorrar para mi viaje.

Mi primer experiencia laboral fue en Vitromacia, donde diseñé salas de exhibición y stands. Tras año y medio de trabajar, vendí mi carro, junté todo el dinero que pude y me fui a Italia con la idea de llegar a un hostal e ir conociendo lugares para vivir, pero dio la casualidad que justo ante de emprender el viaje, me contactó un colega de la carrera. Le platiqué de mi sueño y se ofreció a hospedarme en su casa en Reggio Emilia.

Pasó el tiempo y al año de vivir allá me ofrecieron trabajo en Armani y Max Mara, me quedé con Max Mara como asesor visual merchandising para 850 tiendas en el mundo.

Cuatro años después, decidí regresar a México y empecé de nuevo. Mandé mi curriculum a todos lados y fui todólogo. Fui editor de moda en GQ pues fue lo más cercano a trabajar en el área creativa, y aunque me divertí fue algo cansado ya que tenía que cubrir eventos, no obstante, el sueldo era muy bajo. Pero confié en que si hacía lo que me apasionaba no me faltaría para vivir. Tiempo después, estando en fashion week en Nueva York me di cuenta de que escribir de moda no me era suficiente,

yo quería ser el creativo de moda del que se escribía, por lo que al regresar renuncié y volví a empezar.

Me mudé a Puebla en busca de nuevos retos y lancé mi marca de ropa diseñando vestidos de novias y alta costura, tuve mi taller de diseño de imagen. En esta misma etapa de mi vida, se me presentó la oportunidad de adoptar a una niña y convertirme en padre. Mi hija se volvió mi más grande inspiración. Por algunas circunstancias de la vida tuve que cerrar mi taller y regresar a Monterrey para empezar nuevos proyectos. Me siento satisfecho pues siempre he sido fiel a mis sueños y lo he hecho todo con pasión.
