Overview

"In order to counteract the lack of subsidy to the creative industry and the prejudices over the artistic segment, my contribution is to create a unique network between students and companies." Dorian Francis Mastin's only purpose for the last 10 years has been to take part in the growth and strengthening of the creative industries in Mexico. In order to achieve it he has worked for several companies with whom he has made animated short films and published 15 console and mobile video games, in addition to educating the new generations of digital artists.

In 2013 he became part of Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus Guadalajara as head of the Digital Art career, where he built up a video game company named Cosmogonia within the TEC Lean program and set it up in the Technological Park. This way, he got to share his experience and passion with his students in order to raise academic quality.

After studying Fine Arts in France, Mastin dedicated his time to delve into the exploration of drawing, painting, esculpture, photography, silk-screen printing, litography, video and sound editing, which is why his professional efforts are directed towards the search of better relations with local, national and international institutions to create multidisciplinary projects.

When you ask this creative director and producer about his highest professional satisfaction he does not hesitate to point out the privilege of contributing in the education of future leaders in the subject, who even outside of the classrooms keep in touch to share their accomplishments with him.

Overview

“I wanted to better understand not only the mechanisms of power but also the contraptions of its reasons. This is why I approached comparative politics and political philosophy.”

Jesús Silva-Herzog Márquez has concentrated on the study of political philosophy and, in particular, in the history of political ideas. How liberal ideas are shaped, and the link to the democracy project have been his main areas of interest. He is drawn to the intellectual process that reveals reality and offers both framework clues as well as courses of action He has also explored political essay as an alternative path to understanding the phenomenon of power. He believes that this genre, which intends to be knowledge but also literature, would allow a less dogmatic approach to political complexity.

However, what Silva-Herzog Márquez enjoys the most is the classroom. From his point of view, this is a space that allows for great creativity. A place not only useful to present and share what he has learned, but also to understand what he barely senses and to discover new concepts through his contact with students.

The greatest challenge, he states, is to spread his enthusiasm for ideas at a time when they seem useless. In a world where famous quotes are confused with ideas, he believes it is a challenge to show the relevance of rigorous thinking. This is why motivating the thorough reading of the great classics of political philosophy, and encouraging critical thinking is a difficult task nowadays.

Overview

Marion E. G. Brunck received her PhD in Immunology and Systems Biology from the University of Queensland (Australia) in 2015, and her post-doctoral training from the Translational Research Institute in Brisbane, Australia (2016). She joined Tecnológico de Monterrey as faculty in 2018, and is currently an investigator at the Biotechnology Center-FEMSA.

Marion Brunck's research focuses on mechanisms that regulate immune cell functions. Her laboratory (www.bruncklab.com), currently hosts 4 MSc. students, 2 Ph.D students, and counts with the suite of necessary equipment to undertake successfully immunology and synthetic biology research (BD FACSCelesta flow cytometer, culture biosafety hoods, incubators, microbiology and molecular equipment). As a team, the lab is interested in understanding endogenous and exogenous triggers that modify the phenotype of immune cell and their progenitors, to provide insights into possible applications of immunomodulation for therapeutic purposes.

Marion received a competitive research scholarship from Stem Cells Australia to complete her doctoral studies, where she applied OMICS methodologies including Next-Generation DNA and RNA sequencing and mass spectrometry to study human neutrophils. Marion has extensive experience (>15 years) and expertise in the use of flow cytometry for immunology, obtained during her Honours thesis research in the lab of Prof. Ian Frazer (inventor of the cervical cancer vaccine), and during her PhD and post-doctoral studies, as evidenced by multiple high impact research article publications (Marion authored 18 highly cited peer-reviewed research articles, h-index: 11).

Marion is an active member of the Mexican Society of Immunology, the Mexican Society for Biotechnology and Bioengineering and the American Association of Blood Banks. Through these associations, TEC's School of Engineering postgraduate society (Rho Factor) and the academic group SACBE STEM, which supports and promotes the involvement of women in science, Marion regularly participates in mentoring activities and public interventions to democratize access to cutting-edge knowledge and contribute to shaping a healthier and better-informed future generation.
