¿Cómo saber cuándo estás ante una falta a la integridad académica? Consulta algunas de las faltas, su definición y ejemplos.

Definición: Tipo de plagio que consiste en presentar un trabajo como “nuevo” sin dar a conocer al lector que dicho trabajo ya había sido entregado y evaluado previamente.

Ejemplo: María realizó el ensayo “La Revolución Mexicana” para la materia de Español y entregó el mismo trabajo en Historia, sin informar a las profesoras.

Definición: Consiste en presentar, de forma parcial o total, el trabajo de alguien más como si fuera propio, sin dar el crédito correspondiente al autor. Implica también copiar y pegar textualmente grandes cantidades de información de una fuente, aun cuando se incluya la referencia bibliográfica.

Ejemplos:

Rubén no incluyó citas ni referencias en su ensayo final.

Clara copió el 70% de su trabajo de internet, no expuso su propio punto de vista en el ensayo.

Definición: Se refiere al intercambio de actividades y/o tareas académicas en línea, que pueden ser reutilizadas para obtener ventajas personales en el ámbito académico.

Ejemplo: Juan subió a buenastareas.com un ensayo de Química para poder descargar otro trabajo para su clase de Física.

Definición: La compra-venta implica el encargo o la contratación de los servicios de un tercero para que este realice las tareas, los proyectos o los trabajos académicos de los estudiantes.

Compra-venta viene del término contract cheating; supone la entrega de trabajos originales de los cuales el estudiante no es el autor y, a pesar de su traducción al español, no necesariamente implica pagos en dinero.

Este término involucra tanto a los estudiantes que “compran” trabajos como a los que los “venden”.

Ejemplos:

Romina entregó una maqueta para su clase de Estructuras. Sin embargo, ella no hizo la maqueta; la realizaron su mamá y su hermana.

Jaime contrató a “Tareas en línea” para que realizaran su examen de Cálculo Integral.

Ana contrató a Homework Dealer para que le hicieran dos capítulos de su tesis de maestría.

Karina cobra 200 pesos por realizar trabajos de las materias de Español, Inglés y Alemán a sus compañeros.

Definición: Inventar o crear datos y agregarlos a una tarea, trabajo o investigación para manipular los resultados a favor del autor. Inventar citas o referencias inexistentes a una tarea, trabajo o investigación, o bien, incluir citas o referencias que sí existen, pero que no fueron consultadas para obtener un beneficio como autor.

Ejemplo: Pedro agregó referencias bibliográficas para justificar las ideas expuestas en su ensayo. Sin embargo, no consultó ni citó estas fuentes.

Definición: Hacer trampa para obtener o proporcionar las respuestas de un examen y con ello garantizar una ventaja académica, ya sea contando con el apoyo de terceras personas, de herramientas (acordeones, notas adhesivas, fotocopias, libros, etc.) o dispositivos (celulares, tabletas, relojes inteligentes, lentes con cámaras, auriculares o audífonos, aplicaciones web, computadora, etc.).

Ejemplo: Se sorprendió a Claudia con un formulario (acordeón) en el examen de Estadística, lo cual no estaba permitido y era de conocimiento de la estudiante.

Definición: Difundir las preguntas o respuestas de un examen por diferentes medios (WhatsApp, Facebook, fotocopias, etcétera).

Ejemplo: Jacobo compartió preguntas y respuestas del examen de Microbiología en un grupo de WhatsApp.

Definición: Corromper a otra persona para obtener una ventaja académica, como ofrecer dinero, bienes o servicios, a cambio de una nota aprobatoria.

Ejemplo: Gonzalo le ofreció una botella de Whiskey al profesor a cambio de que le pusiera 70 de promedio final.

Definición: Cambiar o modificar datos, firmas o información, con la intención de obtener un beneficio académico.

Ejemplos:

Gustavo alteró su boleta de calificaciones para subir su promedio en la materia de Matemáticas.

Gabriela modificó su constancia de horas de servicio social y se agregó más horas para “hacer constar” que había cumplido con este requisito.

Definición: Apropiación indebida de información o de un examen para obtener una ventaja académica.

Ejemplo: Ximena tomó sin autorización las llaves del laboratorio para terminar el experimento y envió un correo diciendo que sí había realizado el trabajo.

Definición: Acuerdo entre partes para cometer una falta a la integridad académica, como copia de tareas entre compañeros, incluir a un miembro en el equipo aún y cuando no trabajó, etc.

Ejemplo: Fabricio aparece como parte del equipo 5; sin embargo, no estuvo en ninguna de las clases donde se realizó el proyecto. El equipo aceptó incluirlo porque es su amigo.

Definición: Acción por la que un estudiante se hace pasar por otro con la intención de presentar un examen, asistir a una clase o realizar cualquier otra actividad académica en su nombre para obtener un beneficio académico. Esta falta a la integridad académica involucra tanto al estudiante que suplanta como al que es suplantado.

Ejemplo: Rodolfo acudió a presentar el examen TOEFL con la identificación de Francisco, con el propósito de ayudar a su amigo a acreditar este requisito de graduación.

Other Forms of Academic Integrity Violations  

Definition: Any other action that violates the principles of academic integrity (respect, responsibility, trust, honesty, fairness) and has the purpose of obtaining an academic advantage through cheating, lying, or deceiving. 

Example: Arantza asked the career director to change the grade of an activity she had failed due to a breach of academic integrity.

El proceso de gestión de faltas a la integridad es un plan de acción y acompañamiento que siguen el profesorado y Comités de Integridad Académica para tratar los casos de faltas a la integridad académica y brindar atención especial al estudiantado de acuerdo al caso que presente y las medidas que necesite.

Para conocer en qué consiste este proceso, revisa los pasos:

Breaches of academic integrity, known as FIAs (by its acronym in Spanish) must be reported through the ETHOS platform, which can be accessed in two ways:

It means “acting with honesty, commitment, fairness, responsibility and respect in learning, research and dissemination of culture.” It implies having the courage to stand up for these principles, even when it is difficult to do so (Chapter IX of the Academic Regulations).

A breach of academic integrity is considered any individual or collective action or omission of the students that is committed inside or outside the classroom, that violates the principles of academic integrity and/or that seeks to obtain or facilitate a benefit or academic advantage.

It is the Spanish acronym of Falta a la Integridad Académica, that is, Breach of Academic Integrity
5. What’s the difference between a DA and an FIA?

“DA" (by its acronym in Spanish) means “Deshonestidad Académica”, that is, "Academic Dishonesty". It was a term used to report cases of breaches of academic integrity committed by students, according to the Academic Dishonesty Program and the academic regulations of that time. In July 2017, the Academic Integrity Program was launched with the purpose of promoting a culture in the community, focusing on providing the students with more formative rather than just punitive consequences. Therefore, when a student is reported for having committed an academic integrity breach, the correct term to use is “FIA”, by its acronym in Spanish (that is Falta a la Integridad Académica) and not “DA”.

A Campus Academic Integrity Committee (CIAC, by its acronym in Spanish) is a deliberative body that, by addressing and resolving cases of breaches of academic integrity, educates students in integrity and strengthens the culture of integrity on the Campus and in the Institution in general.

Some examples of this type of actions or omissions are: copy or attempt to copy any type of exam or learning activity; partial or total plagiarism; facilitate any activity or material to be copied and/or presented as your own; impersonation; access and/or manipulate, without express authorization, email accounts or institutional systems; falsify information; alter academic documents; sell or buy exams or distribute them by any means; steal or obtain information improperly or attempt to bribe a professor or any collaborator of the Institution; the alteration of clinical records; unauthorized use of tools, software or devices; among other. A remediation assignment is an educational intervention designed to prevent future infractions. It is aimed to promote reflection among students and raise their ethical awareness to help them make ethical decisions in difficult circumstances.
