Overview

"Anatomic pathology is a medical specialty essential to understand the physiopathological processes of disease, to correlate them with clinical medicine and to arrive at a diagnosis to be able to help with treatment."

Eraña Rojas believes herself to be a researcher that, based on relevant clinical information, medical knowledge, and macroscopic and microscopic information, is capable to diagnose the pathologies in patients. She is certain that her challenge as an anatomopathologist is to keep herself up to date to arrive at a more accurate and complete diagnosis and to be of help on the patients' search for health. As a teacher, her main challenge is for her students to enjoy the learning process so that, despite difficulties, they feel pride when they finish their studies and have the necessary enthusiasm to continue their professional training.

Overview

"Of the great universe of clinical nutrition, I became interested in non-communicable chronic diseases because they are the main challenge of every health professional."

What led Yareni Yunuen Gutiérrez Gómez to study clinical nutrition and specialize in non-communicable chronic diseases and population health was the fact that diseases could be prevented or treated thanks to it. She became interested in studying non-communicable chronic diseases (cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, cancer) because these cause 72 percent of deaths worldwide; however, their main risk factors can be avoided and are associated to nutrition.

When Gutiérrez Gómez understood that individual treatment was influenced by many other far-reaching factors (social determinants of health and nutrition), she focused in population health. Observing existing programs and policies in México with a macro-approach, she can prevent ailments that generate a high psychological, economical and social cost. Although she considers the main challenge of her profession to be the modification of inappropriate lifestyles in people, she is also aware of the urgency of human resources in healthcare matters, which is why she is also passionate about teaching.

She is convinced that empowered nutritionists can be agents of change in whatever environment they work in, they will help enrich the discipline and will contribute, together, to the progress of their country.

Overview

"I am interested in the written word. Writing as a means of communication but also as a space to share and reflect."

Ana Elena Mallet Cárdenas shares, learns and discovers things about the past that she can apply to the present. She faces the challenge of being meticulous and understanding that historical research takes a long time, and thus requires her patience.

Two of the books she has written are Silla mexicana and La Bauhaus y el México moderno, which display her interest in art history but in its widest spectrum; meaning, integrating design, cinema, architecture and new disciplines. She considers art and design to be two study areas with transformative competences: the first one, of perceptions, the second one, of lives.

Mallet Cárdenas is a curator. She believes that museums are places to learn and reflect on different realities, and that is where her interest resides. She has served as consultant, adviser, deputy director and head of preservation in some of the most important cultural spaces in the country: Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC), Museo Tamayo Arte Contemporáneo, Museo de Arte Carrillo Gil, Museo Soumaya, Museo Universitario de Ciencias y Artes (MUCA), Casa del Lago, Centro Cultural Universitario de la Universidad de Guadalajara and Museo del Objeto del Objeto (MODO). At the international level, she is a member of the MoMA (New York) Architecture and Design Acquisitions Committee and has collaborated with museums such as the Art Institute of Chicago and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.

She ran the first exhibition in Mexico dedicated to contemporary fashion; she was in charge of the creation of MexartDB, a digital memoir of contemporary Mexican art as of 1985, sponsored by the Patronato de Arte Contemporáneo (PAC), and has taken part in the organization of the Corredor Cultural Roma Condesa.
