What is the first round of the call?
The first round is an internal competition at Tec to identify the three student projects that will participate as finalists at the international level. Applicants must compile a file with the aforementioned requirements and wait for the decision of the Tec de Monterrey Evaluation Committee.

I don’t meet the requirements. Can I still participate?
No. If you don’t meet all the stipulated requirements in full and any documents are missing from the application materials, your application will automatically be rejected.

My team is made up of another seven (7) members. Can we participate with more than seven (7) people?
Yes. If your team is made up of more than 7 members, you can select a maximum of 7 people as team representatives for the nomination.

My project is still an idea and has not yet been developed. Can I participate?
No. The project has to be in the development stage, not just an idea. Positive actions must have been taken to transform the idea into a reality. However, this does not mean that it has to be a large or a small enterprise; consult the attached image for further details.

Idea

My project was selected as one of the three representatives of Tec in RISE. What’s the next step? What is the second or finalist round?
If you are a finalist, you can represent Tec de Monterrey in the RISE U21 international competition.
You and your team will have to make a second video of the project and this is the one that will be officially presented in the competition. Finalist projects will receive detailed information on this round later on.

Can I submit my project directly on the U21 RISE competition website?
No. Nomination as a finalist is through Tecnológico de Monterrey’s Vice Rectory for International Affairs. Individual nominations directly to U21 are not permitted either before or after round 1.

If I applied last year, can I apply again?
Yes. It does not matter if you applied by yourself or with a team, you can apply again.

My team has members of students from universities that does not belong to U21, can we participate?
No. Only students from U21 universities can apply. Check HERE which universities are part of U21.

There are going to be a total of four (4) teams selected?
No. There are two (2) vacancies for projects with only Tec students and two (2) other vacaciones for projects conformed by Tec students and students from other universities of U21.

The Vice-Rectory for International Affairs invites the educational community to participate in the call for proposals for Global Shared Learning: Classroom (GSL Classroom) from the academic period March 3rd to 28th, 2025, closing on 3:00 p.m. (MCT).

Download the call HERE >

GSL Classroom is an initiative of the Vice-Rectory for International Affairs that aims to link an Educational Unit of Tecnológico de Monterrey with a course from an international partner university, through an international element, using technological tools to connect students, foster collaboration and facilitate learning in multicultural environments.

This international component is included in the course of each of the participating universities, partially or totally, and its length can be extended throughout the course or applied to a specific module or topic with a minimum duration of four weeks.

Professors can decide on elements such as the type of partner they consider suitable for the collaboration, the total length of the experience, the type of interaction (synchronous or asynchronous), the kind of activities, and the evaluation rubric, among other academic elements.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I have questions, can I receive more information before submitting my Educational Unit?

Yes, you can request more information by sending an email to tecglobalclassroom@itesm.mx. The GSL Classroom team will receive your request and answer your questions.

Will I receive a confirmation of receipt of my proposal?

Yes. The application form provides a confirmation message when the submission is successful.

If I am a part-time professor, can I participate?

Yes, all undergraduate professors at Tecnológico de Monterrey can submit their application regardless of their type of contract.

Does GSL Classroom applies to any particular discipline?

No. The GSL Classroom is flexible and can be adapted to Educational Units in any discipline.

If I already have an international partner or peer, can I apply?

Yes. Having previous contact with an international faculty member to collaborate with facilitates the linking process.

I am interested in including GSL Classroom in my Educational Unit, but I do not have any contacts in foreign universities. Can you help me find them?

Yes. Through our international counterparts, current contact networks, and international organizations, we can request information about faculty members with whom to collaborate.

I do not speak English fluently. Can GSL Classroom be conducted in another language?

Yes. The important thing is to identify a common language in which participants can communicate. Educational Units can be conducted in Spanish, English, or any other language.

Is there any incentive for the faculty member who implements GSL Classroom in their Educational Units?

Yes. A certificate of internationalization is awarded by the Vice-Rectory for International Affairs and the Vice-Rectory of Faculty Development, which validates the work with the international partner, and their experience in the Global Shared Learning: Classroom model.

Is it necessary that an agreement already exists or be established with the University to carry out the collaboration?

The agreement is not a requirement for the presentation of the proposal. Everything related to agreements and contracts is an issue that the Vice-Rectory for International Affairs will attend to through its different departments.

What are the benefits of including GSL Classroom within an Educational Unit?

GSL Classroom adds an element of internationalization to the Educational Unit and provides various benefits:
● Flexible and accessible alternative to offer an international experience to students and professors.
● At no additional cost to students.
● Exchange of ideas and opinions among students and among professors from different cultures.
● Supports the development of transversal skills such as:
   ○ Work in multicultural teams in virtual environments
   ○ Use of technologies
   ○ Cross-cultural communication
   ○ Critical thinking
   ○ Global Citizenship
● Digital badges for students.
● Certificate of internationalization for Tec and International professors.
● Self-directed training for teachers.
● Advice and support from the GSL Classroom team.

What are the commitments to include GSL Classroom within a course?

These commitments are expressed in the Requirements section, as well as in the commitment letter that each professor is required to sign as part of their application.

What are the commitments of including GSL Classroom within an Educational Unit?

These commitments are expressed in the section "Global Shared Learning Guidelines: Classroom" of this call, as well as in the Collaboration commitment letter that requires the signature of each professor as part of their application.

What happens in case of breaching any of the commitments acquired when agreeing to participate in GSL Classroom?

It is a fundamental requirement to fulfill every one of the commitments to participate in GSL Classroom. In case you don't, The professor will not be able to earn the certificate of internationalization. Issued by the Vice-Rectory for International Affairs. The Educational Unit would lose the GLGC attribute, so the students would not have the opportunity to participate in the international experience, and consequently, they would not receive their digital badge.

What happens if my application is not selected even though I already have an international partner?

If the application is not selected, the professor is invited to apply in a new call in the next school term.

What happens if the postulated Educational Unit is canceled or will not be taught?

In case of cancellation of the postulated Educational Unit or for some reason beyond the professor it is not possible to give the experience, the Global Shared Learning: Classroom Coordination must be informed of the reasons for the non-opening of the Educational Unit through the check tecglobalclassroom@itesm.mx. If this happens, if the professor has an alternative Educational Unit, the possibility of implementing GSL Classroom in said Educational Unit will be analyzed, as long as it is viable for collaboration. If you already have an international partner, it is important to notify them of the situation.

If I want to apply for two or more Educational Units, how do I proceed?

For those professors new to the GSL Classroom model who have applied for more than one Educational Unit and are selected, only the application that represents the greatest impact on the number of benefited students and whose theme facilitates the search for an international partner will be considered. Those professors who have previously implemented GSL Classroom and want to apply for two or more Educational Units are recommended to contact their Experience Coordinator to analyze the situation and make the most convenient decision.

What can I do to apply for my Educational Unit if it does not meet the minimum number of students?

It is possible to collaborate by integrating two or more groups that are taught during the same period (block/subject), either by the same professor or together with another Tec colleague. The groups can be from the same Educational Unit, similar or complementary.

Can the same collaboration be done with multiple institutions and/or international partners?

Yes. It is possible to collaborate with several institutions and/or professors. It is suggested that there be only two institutions (Tec de Monterrey + international partner university) for easier coordination. The more institutions participate, the degree of complexity increases; however, it is possible to collaborate taking care of the balance in the number of students from the different institutions for the formation of multicultural teams.

I teach an Educational Unit with one or more colleagues. Can I apply??

Yes. All the professors involved in the Educational Units must be aware of and agree with the application. Only one application would be submitted. In the registration of the application, information will be requested from all of them. The requirements mentioned in this call apply to all professors involved (training course "Guide for the design and implementation of GSL Classroom", Collaboration Commitment Letter, among others). Please review the requirements of this call.

I am a professor who has 4 or more certificates of internationalization, can I apply for a UDF in this call?

A: Professors who have 4 or more certificates of internationalization will not be able to apply in this call. We invite you to stay tuned as you will receive information soon.

The impossibility of social distancing among the urban poor: the case of an Indian slum in the times of COVID-19

Authors: Kishinchand Poornima Wasdania and Ajnesh Prasad

Abstract: As cases of COVID-19 were rising in India and the country’s political leadership instituted a nationwide lockdown, one of the authors of this article received a timely invitation from a friend – a government official – to make rounds with him and his team to various neighborhoods within the metropolitan city of Bangalore. The team consisted of members working in healthcare, municipal corporation, and local police, and was tasked with ensuring that the government enacted measures of social distancing were being observed by local residents in public spaces. The author witnessed, in real time, the ways in which residents were engaging with the containment measures that were instituted as part of the political leadership’s attempt to flatten the curve of COVID- 19. What was observed in an urban slum was particularly poignant and illuminating. The observations captured how, for residents of the urban slum, social distancing is more an aspiration than an attainable reality. Indeed, social distancing is impossible if such a protocol does not come with concomitant economic support targeted to the most socially vulnerable in society.

A web-based Platform for Scientific & Technological Knowledge Understanding and Discovery on COVID-19 is proposed with the aim to develop an interactive on-line platform, based on network and other types of visualizations, that tracks the dynamics of scientific and technological knowledge on COVID-19 disease, as reflected on documents extracted from bibliographic databases (journals and pre-prints). By providing an easy access to the totality of knowledge being generated on COVID-19, we think that our platform will not only allow a broader understanding of this rapidly expanding field, but it could also allow for opportunities for discovery.

The need for the development of improved or completely new ways of diagnosing, treating, and curing COVID-19 has redefined, at least temporarily, the current science, technology, and innovation ecosystem.
Countries are in an emergency mode, pouring significant resources to fight COVID-19 from several fronts, including the basic understanding of the disease, biomedical technologies, and clinical practices.
The latter has resulted in the rapid generation and diffusion of complex knowledge, which stakeholders can hardly keep up with. For example, we have counted 5,000+ COVID-19-relevant documents in the last three months. Efficient and effective responses and decision-making to complex challenges, such as COVID-19, demand the access of stakeholders—researchers & scientists, policy makers, and public in general—to not only the knowledge, but also its structure, directions, and interactions. Data science approaches such as computer intelligence and network methods are suitable tools for this purpose.

Risk perception of getting COVID-19, social isolation and their impact on well-being and performance: Personal and Organizational Protecting Factors.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a malaise that is deeply affecting societies around of the global. In order to help government, organizations, companies, employees and public in general, several top-tier Journals have decided to study what can be done to help societies to face the several challenges of this situation. For instance, the Journal of Applied Psychology mentions the following: “The COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally altered many aspects of work and nonwork life, with both short-term and likely long-term effects. There are many potential ways that the science of applied psychology can contribute to the public good and enhance our understanding of how COVID-19 has affected employees, leaders, teams, families, organizations as well as the communities in which these groups reside in. The faster that we can bring our scientific evidence to others, the more we can help.”

We, as researchers and professors also believe that there is a lot that we can do from our own trenches, to help governments, companies, employees and public in general to better manage this difficult situation. Specifically, we are interested in investigating how COVID-19 has affected work. After a thorough selection we have identify the following topics as relevant within this context: perception of risk of getting COVID, social isolation, multiple identities, physical and psychical well-being, performance, quality of marital relationship, psychological capital, organizational and manager support.

The Organization of Ideological Discourse in Times of Unexpected Crisis:
Explaining How COVID-19 is Exploited by Populist Leaders

Author: Ajnesh Prasad

Abstract: Using the persecution of Muslims in India that is currently taking place in the backdrop of the COVID-19 global pandemic as an illustrative case, this essay identifies the dynamics of the organization of ideological discourse by populist leaders in times of unexpected crisis. The organization of ideological discourse represents strategic, discursive acts committed by (populist) leaders aimed at foregrounding social conditions that would function in advancing various political ends—whether those ends may be the consolidation of power, the undermining of institutional systems of checks and balances, the implementation of exclusionary or injurious policies against disenfranchised constituents, the suspension of civil liberties, or a combination thereof. It is engendered through a three-stage process. In the first stage, surface-level validation by legitimate institutional actors confirm preconceived ideas about a constructed enemy. In the second stage, inflammatory rhetoric is deployed by populist leaders, which scapegoat that constructed enemy. These two stages culminate to create widespread moral panic in society. With moral panic firmly established, in the third stage an environment of fear and paranoia becomes susceptible to the enactment of symbolic and physical violence against the constructed enemy. The essay concludes with some words on the pressing need to deconstruct ideologically-motivated discourses related to COVID-19.
